The Water Crisis in Nigeria
According to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), 56 million Nigerians—28% of the population—rely on unsafe water sources. The situation is most severe in rural areas, where over 80% of those without access to safe drinking water and 70% of those with poor sanitation facilities reside.
Globally, waterborne diseases remain a major public health concern. Illnesses like cholera, diarrhea, typhoid, and polio are directly linked to contaminated water and inadequate sanitation. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that around 525,000 children die from diarrheal diseases each year, with many of these deaths resulting from drinking contaminated water. When water and sanitation services are lacking, people face avoidable health risks.
Our Solution: Ensuring Sustainable Water for All
KOFA is committed to providing sustainable and safe drinking water in Nigeria’s most vulnerable and remote communities. Our efforts go beyond just providing water; we empower communities with the knowledge to maintain it.
Through strategic partnerships with local organizations specializing in sustainable water solutions, we work together to:
Provide Access: We implement initiatives to ensure communities have reliable access to clean water sources.
Educate and Empower: We educate communities on simple water purification methods, like using chlorine-based disinfectants, and the importance of hygiene and sanitation.
We believe that access to safe drinking water is fundamental to a community’s well-being and prosperity. Clean water not only ensures health but also acts as a catalyst for overall development and resilience. By giving communities the tools and knowledge to manage their water resources, we are helping them build a foundation for sustained growth and a healthier future.
